Karate Classes
The focus of these classes is the main karate curriculum. Students should make an effort to attend two of these classes per week for normal progression. More classes will be required as a student progresses up through the belt levels, and there are teaching requirements at blue belt and beyond. Please see the syllabus for more information regarding what will be covered in classes. |
Karate Sparring Integrated into the classes are sessions that typically involve karate and jujitsu sparring drills lead by instructors, as well as time reserved for kumite rounds ("free-style" or "soft sparing"). Participants may choose to practice the kind of kumite that they are most comfortable with, or even potentially integrate both standing randori and groundwork. All members are welcomed to attend but only colour belts are allowed to free spar. White belts may practice the drills. Beginners who have previous martial arts experience must check with an instructor for permission to spar. |
