[WINTER 2021] The Return of In-Person Classes...
last updated: Tues, Feb 23, 2021
Going forwards, we will continue to have ONLINE classes on Mondays and Wednesdays (8-9 pm @ discord 💻) as well as TWO additional in-person classes for those of you in Waterloo! All classes this term (online & in-person) are FREE for all. Here are a few things to complete/remember before you attend any in-person classes:
WINTER 2021 Class Registration **COVID-RESTRICTIONS ENFORCED**
No experience required. If possible, we will resume in-person classes on Monday, January 18th, and our class schedule can be found HERE. We will be continuing to stream our in-person classes on discord, but please note that Thursdays and Saturdays will only be streamed upon request due to low volume last term. We are more than happy to get this set up if you are interested. In addition, we are hoping to have a socially-distanced grading in March or April, weather- and restriction-permitting. In the event of a lockdown at any point, we plan to offer online classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8PM on discord.

Karate Classes
Mon, Wed, Thur 8:00 - 8:45 PM There will be THREE types of karate classes offered: beginners (white, yellow, orange), advanced (green, blue, brown, black) and mixed levels. Please see "Schedules" for more information. The focus of these classes is the main karate curriculum. Students should make an effort to attend two of these classes per week for normal progression. More classes will be required as a student progressed up through the belt levels, and there are teaching requirements at blue belt and beyond. Please see the syllabus for more information regarding what will be covered in classes. |
**CANCELLED for Fall 2020 **
Jujitsu (Japanese) Classes Friday 5:00 - 6:30PM Jujitsu-focused classes take place on Friday evenings with an emphasis on throws, locks and ground work. The Jujitsu lessons are on a Japanese style which is different from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). Our style of Jujitsu incorporates stand-up techniques, takedowns and groundwork. |
**CANCELLED for Fall 2020 **
Combined Karate and Jujitsu Sparring Classes Saturday 3:30-5:00PM These sessions typically involve karate and jujitsu sparring drills lead by instructors, as well as time reserved for kumite rounds ("free-style" or "soft sparing"). Participants may choose to practice the kind of kumite that they are most comfortable with, or even potentially integrate both standing randori and groundwork. All members are welcomed to attend but only colour belts are allowed to free spar. White belts may practice the drills. Beginners who have previous martial arts experience must check with an instructor for permission to spar. |
