Kata are the forms used to pass down the information within a martial arts system. The kata serve as a non-verbal, non-written means of communication. Within the Goju Ryu system there are thirteen kata. The kata that we teach at our dojo are as follows
- Geki Sai Dai Ichi (Attack and Smash #1)
- Geki Sai Dai Ni (Attack and Smash #2)
- Saifa (Smash and Tear)
- Sanchin (Three Battles)
- Seiyunchin (To Travel Far in Battle/ To Control, Suppress and Pull)
- Shisochin (Battle in four gates)
- Sanseiru (36 hands)
- Seipai (18 hands)
- Seisan (13 hands)
- Kururunfa
- Suparimpei (108 hands)
- Tensho (Revolving hands)
- Sanchin Dai Ni
To facilitate learning the kata, we have recorded one of our instructors performing some of them. Please forgive the low production quality.
