Kata

Kata are the forms used to pass down the information within a martial arts system. The kata serve as a non-verbal, non-written means of communication. Within the Goju Ryu system there are thirteen kata. The kata that we teach at our dojo are as follows
  • Geki Sai Dai Ichi (Attack and Smash #1)
  • Geki Sai Dai Ni (Attack and Smash #2)
  • Saifa (Smash and Tear)
  • Sanchin (Three Battles)
  • Seiyunchin (To Travel Far in Battle/ To Control, Suppress and Pull)
  • Shisochin (Battle in four gates)
  • Sanseiru (36 hands)
  • Seipai (18 hands)
  • Seisan (13 hands)
  • Kururunfa
  • Suparimpei (108 hands)
  • Tensho (Revolving hands)
  • Sanchin Dai Ni
To facilitate learning the kata, we have recorded one of our instructors performing some of them. Please forgive the low production quality.
